Why I Write

(Original and Final Draft)

Sex and the City: Desensitization

The Choice

This was an assignment for Writing 220, the introduction course to the Minor in Writing. The task seemed simple enough -tell the reader why you write -but it made me explore writing in a new way and opened my eyes to what writing really means to me.

This was a research paper for Communications 381, an upper-level writing course. The prompt invited students to explore a topic of our choosing. At the time, I was interested in the depictions of sex in media, so this essay represents a step in using writing to explore my own interests.

These were also assignments for Writing 220. The first (on left) was a re-purposing assignment; I took an essay about music festivals that I had written for another class and transformed the topic into a short story about a young girl whose attempts to fund a trip to a music festival takes her down a bad path. The second (on right) was a remediation of this story; I imagined the story as a film and created a faux movie trailer.
