Capstone Project

My final Capstone project also embodies my evolution as a writer...Freshman year me would have cowered at the thought of a project like this, and been afraid of what might happen if the professor didn’t like it or, worse, if I didn’t succeed.

For my final Capstone project, I wrote a short children's book. I have played with the idea of writing one in the past, and this project served as the ideal opportunity to go for it. I wanted to put some kind of twist on the format and after lots (and lots) of thinking and revising, I finally decided on a story that combines children's book language with young adult content. The intended audience for the story are soon-to-be or current college students.

The story focuses on a young woman named Violet, who we first encounter when she is leaving home for college. Shortly after her arrival, she (like many real-world college students) becomes overwhelmed with all the new people and choices that she has to make. Feeling down, Violet goes on a hunt around campus to find what makes her happy.
