Writing for Myself

"[I]f I have learned anything over the past four years, it is to never refrain from doing something because of a fear of failure. Three years ago, I was afraid that straying from the path of an essay prompt would get me a bad grade; and maybe some ugly phone calls from my parents. While I still have to remind myself from time to time to shake away my doubts, I can comfortably say that I am now more than ever willing and eager to take risks with my writing because I understand the rewards that come from writing for myself."

The Black Sheep

The summer after my sophomore year, I interned as a Music/Film Columnist for an online publication called Limerence Magazine. The position required that I pitch article ideas to my editor, write album reviews, interview artists, and more. I loved the freedom to explore my own interests through my writing, and the internship gave me confidence that I was looking for.

Now in my last year of school, I am writing for a campus publication called The Black Sheep. Articles are filled with humor, and focus on college-related content. Writing for them allows me to use my own voice and talk about things that are relevant to my life. It also serves as a break from the academic writing that consumes most of my life.
