Why I Write

First Draft

Inspiration

Final Draft

The first assignment in the introductory class was to explain our unique reasons for pursuing a Minor in Writing. Under "Inspiration" is a short piece I wrote about how I write that later served as inspiration.

Initially, I took the question "Why do you write?" too seriously. I am used to writing research- and evidence-based papers, so I did not utilize my freedom to write what I want as much in the First Draft. I did, however, get creative with alliteration. Then I rewrote the piece so it would express more of my personality and interests; in this case, music. I took out a significant portion of the original writing, but kept the alliteration in the Final Draft because I think it brings personality. Although it's scary deleting words and making a piece shorter overall, I'm pleased with the Final Draft.
